Cork it!

November 11, 2011

If you are looking to give your back & feet a break, we have a suggestion. Cork it! Choose cork flooring and your feet and back will thank you and so will the rest of you! Cork is hypo allergenic and doesn’t attract dust which helps with allergies. It is non-absorbent and won’t trap dirt or yucky fungus.   Bugs don’t like cork-including termites. Cork is also fire retardant and reduces noise.

Cork has a lot of benefits beyond the healthy ones.  It is a renewable resource. Cork is easily maintained and works great in any room including the bathroom or kitchen. Cork is durable and can handle heavy traffic easily.  Cork is a floating floor that can be easily installed without the use of glue or special tools.

Cork is a superhero in the flooring world especially if you are suffering from a bad back or chronically aching feet.  Choose cork and feel like you are walking on air! Visit ProSource of Pinellas County today and check out the amazing benefits of cork for yourself.

The Benefits of Cork Flooring

September 24, 2010

Why choose cork floors? The reasons are endless and cork floors provide a really interesting and beautiful look in any room.  The benefits of cork flooring are plenty.

Cork has a unique and natural beauty not seen in most other natural materials.  Cork comes in a variety of colors, shapes and patterns.  Choosing cork flooring for your home will create a dramatic and beautiful effect on any room.

Cork is a natural noise reducer.  Air trapped inside the structure of cork provides shock absorption feel to the floor which can reduce sound and vibration. Cork is also soft on your feet and perfect for areas where standing is necessary like kitchens. Drop something on a cork floor and you are unlikely to hear the loud clank it would make on tile or hardwood. The softness of the cork material is great for people with children, pets or people in need of back relief.

Cork has many natural benefits including anti-allergenic and a resistance to insects.  Suberin is a waxy substance in cork that repels most bugs and molds and protects the cork from rotting when moisture or wetness stays for a long time. It is a safe and healthy flooring material for adults, pets and babies. Cork can also be fire resistant on top of all these incredible and natural benefits.
Cork is an incredibly durable material for floors as it has been used since the late 1890s in many public buildings like churches and libraries.  Using cork flooring in your home is not only a beautiful and natural choice; it is healthy, safe and unique. Go green and choose cork!

Domestic or Imported? The Flavor of Hardwood

June 18, 2010

Domestic or Imported?  We aren’t talking beer here but hardwood floors.  The National Wood Flooring Association lists 34 species of hardwoods used in flooring which is just a few more than Baskin & Robbins and more than enough to fit any style, taste or budget.

If you want something “home brewed” for your floors there are plenty of domestic hardwood species available to choose.  The most popular are Red & White Oak or Southern Yellow & Antique Heart Pine. These four species are readily available and have excellent durability.

Looking for something slightly more exotic? Popular imported hardwood flooring choices include Brazilian Cherry, Merbau, Cork and Bamboo.  Bamboo and Cork flooring are also known as “green” products as they are both renewable.  The availability, cost and  durability of these species have a wide range so you should talk to your ProSource of Pinellas County  team to assist you in making the right hardwood choice.
